Short Description | Rebellion of Adam Worthe |
Details | Suffolk. Adam Worthe of Lamarsh of the county of Essex is accused by John de Reveshale then the mayor of Sudbury, of being a chief rebel and congregator of the people against the king on Saturday 15th June at Sudbury, and of threatening the life and limb of various men unless they rose up and departed with him on his business as he commands them to do on part of the king and the faithful people. And because of this the said Adam Worthe has been arrested and brought by the sheriff before the aforesaid justices and immediately it was asked of him how he wishes to acquit himself of the charges of felonies and treasons aforesaid, and he says that he is not guilty, and for good or ill puts himself upon the country. The jurors come and say upon their oath that the aforesaid Adam Worthe of Lamarsh of the county of Essex is guilty of the felonies and treasons of which he is accused. Judgement is therefore given that he should be beheaded, and his head placed upon the pillory of the village of Clare, and that an inquiry be made into his lands and chattels. (Beheaded). |
