Details | The Jurors say, that John Thachham, Richard Derby, of Wynchepe, Abel de Erhethe [i.e. Erith], with other unknown malefactors, made insurrection against the peace of our Lord the King, on Monday next after the feast of Holy Trinity (10th June, 1381), in the fourth year of the reign of the King that now is, and feloniously broke open the castle of our Lord the King, in Canterbury, and took away divers felons and other prisoners that were therein, against their will; and took there William Septvantz, the Sheriff of Kent, and dragged him away with them, and compelled him to deliver to them the books and writs of our Lord the King, which, being delivered to them, they immediately burnt, to the prejudice of our Lord the King, and his Crown. |
